When the ‘Barer’s Law’ becomes a reality, we must all be willing to give it a try
Barer, who is known for his anti-abortion rhetoric, has a track record of advocating for the life of a fetus.
In the past, he has said, fetuses are “more human” than humans.
“The life of an unborn baby is the life that we are trying to save,” Barer said in March, a statement which has since been removed from the website.
His statements on abortion and the law have come under intense scrutiny in India, which still does not have a national law banning abortion.
Barer is one of several leaders in the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the dominant political force in India.
In March, the BJP’s state executive called for the repeal of the “Barers Law” and said it is the “time for India to live in a country where we do not kill unborn children”.
