Wigan boss wants ‘real change’ to win promotion
Wigan are hoping to turn around their fortunes after a disappointing campaign and the arrival of former England midfielder Joe Cole.
The Tigers will look to move up to the Premier League and win promotion from League One as they head into the final three rounds of the Championship play-off competition.
Cole, who joined Wigan on a free transfer from Manchester United last month, scored a hat-trick against Preston North End on Saturday, but the hosts were not able to mount a response.
“I’m looking forward to playing at home, the fans will be great,” said Cole.
“It’s going to be a real change for us, I’m really looking forward and looking forward with my family and family.”
We’ll play in front of our own fans, it will be a really special moment for us.
“Cole, 34, is set to make his first appearance since the start of the campaign after returning to action after a six-month lay-off.
He scored seven goals in 33 appearances in all competitions last season, including three in all Premier League games.
Wigan have been relegated from the top flight in the Championship after winning just four of their last 21 matches in the league.
